Clover B7A-Black Hot and Cold Water Dispenser in Black Reviews

The main thing I wanted in a water cooler was to actually make the water cold. I did a lot of research and found that most of the popular ones only cooled water to around 50 degrees F and were not adjustable. All I can say is when I have any kind of drink, I'm the kind of person that fills the cup with ice first. This cooler is perfect for me. Makes ice cold water without needing to add ice to the glass and I don't even have it turned to the coldest setting. I don't use the hot water so I can't comment on that. Water flows quickly, especially more so the fuller the bottle is. For ice cold water, this one is perfect.

After reading reviews, I decided to go with the Clover B7A hot and cold water dispenser. However, I saw that this item came in black and had only 2 reviews (one 5 star and one 1 star) so the rating was kind of low. Let me go ahead and bring that star rating up a bit as this product is awesome. I was able to set it up in almost no time and it didn't leak, didn't taste like plastic and the cold was plenty cold and the hot was really hot!

I would recommend this water dispenser to everyone.

My dispenser arrived promptly and worked very well for the first month. During the first month the unit was quiet and you would not know it was in the kitchen. Since the the first month however the unit will make a noise once every hour or so as though it is re-heating or cooling the water. It lasts for about 60 seconds and then stops but it is a little annoying and makes me wonder if it a precursor to a bigger problem. The unit still works and appears to be sound in every other way.

I have had the item for about two months now and love it! I almost purchased more expensive models and I decided to take a chance on this one and I am happy I did!

This unit is working just as I had hoped it would. It is a nice looking unit, and the hot is hot and the cold is quite cold. No issues or concerns at this time.

First off .You need a common wire if not you will have to hook up other ways like Venstar Add-A-Wire 5 Wire to 4 Wire Adapter. Nice remote feature via wif viaVenstar ACC0454 Skyport Wi-Fi Key for ColorTouch Thermostatsi. Easy interface. The nice feature is that you can control the thermostat from any smartphone, just about any ware.. You can be so lazy.. Thermostat on the wall., and your in bed use the phone thats next to you now you dont need to get up. You dont need a nest.(can the other thermostats show photos), i looked at lots of thermostats and researched over 20 of them, to see what the best was. I got this and I am very happy with it.

I love almost everything about this thermostat. It looks great, the interface is beautifully designed and intuitive to use, it has settings to operate your HVAC just about any way you'd like. Using the Wifi internet key I found the wireless range was great and the web and phone apps are very well designed. This was the lowest price I found and after ordering 4 of these I had one that had a problem with the card slot, HVAC Parts Warehouse sent me a new one right away, didn't even have to return the defective one. The only improvement I can think of is it would be nice if the Wifi key wasn't visible sticking out the side of the thermostat case. Extremely happy.

We have this thermostat installed in a rental unit, and purchased it primarily for the ability to program a screen lock password and setpoint limit (thus preventing the renters from making the place a virtual refrigerator!) The "cool" features such as the customizable background photos (& slideshow) were nice added touches. I was perhaps a bit naive for purchasing the T6800 instead of the T5800, as I was unsure of the differences. It seems that the T6800 simply has holidays available for programming ease in a business setting... something that I will never use. (But, for the virtually nonexistent price difference, I went with this version).

I purchased the WIFI module as well, and am happy with the ability to see energy use and be able to manage temp settings when I know we don't have guests in the property. I have written a review for that product, as well, but will go ahead an just say that the app will allow basic changes (and to schedule, if you use that feature), but will not allow you to edit deadbands or any of the "installer" features, although, these will probably be a non-issue to most people).

The thermostat seems to be working well and was easy to install. I would definitely recommend taking a pic of your current thermostat wiring prior to attempting this install, to refer to. While the included instructions give the wiring diagrams, your situation may vary...

Honest reviews on Venstar T6800 Commercial Thermostat

What a disappointment ! Not only did I have to pay an additional $200 to get the thermostat wired correctly by an electrician (requires a 5 wire cable to AC unit) but the SD slot is 'defective': the Wifi adapter (purchased seperately) pops back out after only a few days from install.

Overall, the thermostat does not look sleek/modern but rather a white plastic box mounted on the wall with unresponsive screen. Don't be amazed by the colour screen as shown in the picture, the screen is not HD or in high resolution and looks no different from standard thermostat. For the price, I would buy something else. Will return

This is an amazing thermostat. The APP is good on apple and android which is important for me and my wife. Great display, east to use, and the best wifi thermostat to date hands down.

I got this to supplement the window unit I've been using for years and ended up just completely replacing the window unit.

Very robotic design, it stands around 3ft tall and is in fact rather slim once you take it out of the packaging. Came with all the necessary accessories to get it running immediately. Hooking it up and putting the hot air vent where my window A/C used to be was extremely straightforward.

We usually power it up after my daughter returns from pre-school and set the temperature to around 74F. It usually shuts off at about 2am when the room and outside temps are nice and comfortable. The air is extremely cold around the unit and gets a good sized room down to a nice temp really fast. It seems very quiet during the day with all the other sounds and my daughter has slept like a baby ever since we got it. I does emit a low hum when it's cooling but otherwise the fan sound is not noticeable to me. You can turn it on high for a few minutes but after awhile, that's overkill. It does a great job on a low fan setting once the room is almost at the temp you want it at.

I really like the idea of not having to use central air like in our old apartment. I think over time the utility savings will easily cover the cost of the unit. The best part is I can bring it with us if we ever move.

It's worked excellently for a couple of weeks now and I may just end up getting another for our own room.

This has been a lifesaver during hot summer days. I agree with the negative reviews about it being noisy, but I have it in my bedroom and I got used to it after 2 nights. I sleep through it now. The LED is also very bright, but not so much that it keeps me awake. I took off a star because of the useless window mount. The hoses weren't long enough for it to reach my window, so I went to Home Depot to build a rig. Replacement hoses are EXPENSIVE, so I didn't buy them. The screws are very short and pop right out of the cheap plastic mount, so I'm using tape to hold them in place. I have since moved and now have casement windows, so I'm in the process of building a new mount in which I will screw the hoses directly into a piece of plexiglass which will sit in the window. I've read that this will work fine, so I'm not concerned about it. One of the negative reviews I read about this unit is that it failed to cool the space. It is designed to cool roughly 600 square feet (a small apartment) so it works fine for my place. I also use a fan to push the cool air into the other room. I like the look of the unit, as well as the fact that it can be a fan or a dehumidifier. I bought plastic tubing for the water collection tank, but it has yet to produce a single drop. The vent hose is doing its job.

I built a bar in my garage that is ~ 600 sqft. Now understand, it has walls and insulation but the exterior is corrugated tin and gets very hot. I started my journey of research to find a unit to make it comfortable. I looked at all sorts of options and spoke to several AC installers. Typically speaking, AC's are rated by the BTU's (12K BTU per 400 sqft) and I knew that 14K was not enough to cool down 600 sqft . I thought I would try it anyway because of the ease. When the unit arrived I took it out of the box, connected a few things, and turned it on (yes it is that easy). Just remember...there are two hoses in the back of the unit (intake and output). The output hose must be ventilated and the input needs to be left disconnected from the window. The intake is what pulls the air from the room, the unit cools the air, the cold air is blown back into the room and the hot air it vented out. That is basically how a unit (any AC unit) works.

Contrary to my thoughts, it works great. It is not real loud (as some say it is). Even in July with 105° Texas heat and 98% humidity this unit will pull the temp down to a comfortable degree. It will take about an hour and a half but it is well worth it.

UPDATE 7/2/2013

Ok this is the second summer I have had this unit and If you live in Los Angeles you know its been 95 to 105 degrees all week! Havent used this AC since last summer so this week we brought it out and hooked it up and it is still working flawlessly! No problems what so ever same sound level same cold output all the buttons still work and the hoses are still fine. So far for me this unit has been rock solid and I am still very happy with my purchase, if you intend on buying please read my original review below and spend a little time to hook it up correctly.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I bought this AC after doing some research and the reviews here.

My unit arrived in great condition and after reading some reviewers say the hose attachment did not stay on with the screws provided I went to the hardware store and bough 8 bolts, nuts and lock washers as well as a plastic filler plate to fill the gap that the vent didnt cover. Total price $8.98.

I put everything together with the bolts I bought and threw away the screws that came with it, I can see how they would not be able to hold the hose connector properly they are just some short wood screws that go through connector to the window vent plate, not a very secure way to hold it on but oh well.

I turned the unit on immediately very cold air poured out now it wasnt very hot in the room maybe 75 but you could feel the difference it made. I will give a better review on its full performance after the summer which I feel will be a good test the room I have it in has direct sunlight all day and is the hottest room in the house.

The unit looks well made and is very solid the noise level is not that bad my portable unit is more quite than my window unit that has only 12,000 btu's.

So far I am happy but I will update this as the summer goes into full heat mode.

Do your self a favor and take the vent plate and one of the hose connectors to a hardware store and get the bolts this will save alot of cussing later on. I truly believe those wood screws will not last too long if there is any amount of pressure placed on the plate from the vent hoses.

Oh and one other thing the vents, I am not to sure why they are designed to go just straight up? I am going to make a hood to redirect the air a little more forward but I will try it the way it was designed and report back.

Dean

UPDATE 6/25/2012

Ok so we have neen through a few 90 degree days here and I have to say that there are a few things I have learned about AC efficiency. first insulation is a must a room the is not well insulated will not cool as well as a room that is!

My AC unit is in a room with a sliding glass door that gets full sunlught all day long so it gets pretty hot with the AC running full blast it got cool but not COLD, i mean it was comfortable but i felt it was at the limit of what it could do.

What I did was buy some solar shade screens and placed them in front of the sliding doors not the whole door just the upper half. The AC unit now does an a amazing job of cooling the room! The heat coming in from the window was canceling out the cooling from the AC so it never had a chance to do its thing. it got so cold in there on a 80 degree day I found my kids watching TV with blankets covering them!

So my final thoughts on this purchase are, you must assess the room and the environmental that this AC will be used in and use some common sense if there is a heat source in the room that will cause it to heat up the AC will only go so far to keep the temps down if you can help the unit by minimizing any direct heat to the room the AC will perform at its best.

When you are buying something this expensive and this heavy, packaging is a big worry.

The product arrived in great shape--as some have said previously, it was packaged in two boxes, so even if the exterior boxed appears a bit beat up, the interior box is in perfect shape. The exterior box was double thickness and the interior box was single thickness. The corners were protected by separate corner laminated cardboard pieces that ran the full length of the box. VERY impressed with the packaging.

We have yet to place the A/C unit in its final resting place, but I suspect everything will meet or exceed our expectations. If not, I will update this review.

A comment on the terrible reviews of this product, most of which claim it not only does not cool, but actually increases the temperature of the room(s) in which it is located: If you do not attach both air ducts to outside air, of course it will heat up the room--it is simply pumping heated air that is supposed to go outside into the room into the interior room. This is a simple problem of thermodynamics: FOR THE UNIT TO WORK, YOU MUST ATTACH BOTH DUCTS TO OUTSIDE AIR WHEN USING IT IN A/C MODE.

I have had this heater for about two years. I am a 62 year old grandmother and take good care of my equipment, so this heater has been well cared for. The cord wrapped around the pedestal this morning, creating a tiny bit of tension at the point where to cord enters the back of the fan. There was a loud pop and then flames shooting out of the back of the fan. Thank goodness I was standing right there or my house could have burned down. I will be reporting this to the company than makes them, but I am getting rid of the other identical heater I have. This is a fire hazard.

I bought my Optimus H-4501 heater last month and am super impressed with it. First of all, for anyone who uses a heater at night in their room, having a low-laying floor model makes no sense. It will just point heat at the side of your bed. Having the elevated "heater on stick" model makes all the sense in the world. Now the heat is aiming at you. I have another pedestal heater of a different brand which made its way to my garage, because although it has a shut-off timer, it has no thermostat, so it's either on low, on high, or off. The Optimus has a thermostat, and a good one, not just a dial, but rather a digital display where you pick the desired temperature digitally and the heater turns off when that temperature is reached and back on when the room gets cold again. I've never seen a pedestal heater that has both a timed shut-off feature and a thermostat until I found this one. Also, it's very QUIET in its operation, even while in oscilating mode. And I like the backlit digital display which is at eye-level from a bed. It's got a nice remote control, but I hardly ever use it sense the screen and controls are at very easy to reach (as opposed to my old heater which had them located on the base of the unit). Last, but not least, like all dish heaters I've tried before, this heater projects substantial heat at you very quickly. I've never had to use the high setting yet. I would recommend this heater to everyone. I really feel it's the best space heater ever!!!

I have only had this product for one day as of 01/09/2013. I will comment later if need be.

So far, I don't see any problem with the item itself, HOWEVER, I thought I was buying, and paid for, a new product. It may be new, but the packaging (original) was definitely previously OPENED and then poorly re-boxed. I was skeptical but took the heater out of the box anyway since the box didn't appear to be damaged.

All the parts were there except the two AAA batteries that are advertised as included. This could be an oversight on the person who re-boxed the heater. The remote worked okay but was just tossed loose in the box and could have been damaged or lost, BTW, the box exterior states two AA batteries included! I tried to install two AA 's before I realized only AAA's would fit (dah).

The assembly is very simple, no tools required. The unit, while operating in the oscillating mode is a little wobbly, sort of top heavy but acceptable. The pedestal telescopes and is extendable somewhat, in the highest position while oscillating it is a little noisy but in the lowest position I didn't notice it.

You can run the unit with or without the timer (8 hr max) and with or without oscillating.

The safety tip-over switch is built in to the unit (a mercury switch I guess) and is NOT a visible on-off switch on the bottom of the stand. I tested it and it works fine from any tipped position.

So far, so good :)

I have had this product for a few months and find it gives out adequate heat for my use. I am a diabetic and my feet are always cold. I keep this directed at my feet when I sit at my computer desk. It warms my feet quickly and I then keep them comfortably warm by periodically turning the heat on as needed. I also sometimes place it on my desk for cooling off when I am too warm. I use the cool fan level for this and it is really great to keep me comfortable when I don't want to use my air conditioner. I really like this versatile product.

After 6 months of Sunday Crepe breakfasts for the family I now regularly get excellent Crepes (almost) with this Crepe maker without resorting to the professional Krampouz. As usual you have to practice, practice, practice.

Here are a few recommendations:

Ditch the plastic crepe helper. It's similar to the foaming helpers in Espresso machines, it gets total novices over the initial contact hump but quickly stops you from making any decent progress with the product (Crepe). The tool creates a messy experience and creates uneven crepes.

Second ditch the scraper. It's very hard to get good crepes if you prefer the very liquid kind of dough (which I like). Instead get a round Birchwood scraper. They tend to be larger as well ( 8 inches or so). The round surface allows you to evenly spread the dough ( AMAZON sells them )

Third ditch the spatula. It's simply to short. If you make a real crepe, a really thin crepe the provided spatula will just pierce through the crepe when you lift it to turn or take off the crepe maker. I got a 23 inch Birchwood spatula and am very happy with it.

Fourth: There is no magic to crepe if you follow my advice, use this great crepe maker and practice, practice, practice. I use a simple crepe recipe. You need to play with the temperature and times a bit. My crepes are done within 50s on the first side and 30s for the other side. Experiment and watch videos on the internet.

I bought this in July 2009 for a Bastille Day party it was a huge hit! I practiced a few days before the party and couldn't have been happier. Thought it was a little pricey, but has proven to be worth every cent. Fist crepe or two will be a mess, but just keep trying. MAJOR improvement from just using a frying pan. The flat surface allows you to make larger and thinner crepes. We do not use the pre-measured well or scoop. We do use the wooden tools that are included and that is all you need, I just pour an amount in the middle and can eyeball the correct amount. Then I quickly spread with the wooden t-shaped tool to spread the batter evenly. Watch YouTube videos of crepe making to get the process down. We do not grease our surface before cooking b/c I use a recipe from the internet that contains melted butter and nothing ever sticks. This item cooks EVENLY and I use setting 3 for my crepes other setting cook to fast for me. I do not use the included recipe book, but they do look good. I typically make my mix in the blender and it keeps for 48 hours, allowing me to whip out a crepe for breakfast and dinner 2 days in a row. I also like to cook one side, then flip, then crack an egg on top of the cooked side, let it cook for 1 or 2 minutes, then flip again and add cheese with enough time to melt and then fold and serve. Got this idea from YouTube video of a pro crepe maker. Ignore videos of crepe makers that are not on the street cooking crepes in front of customers the other videos are a huge waste of time! Long and short of it GREAT investment for your kitchen!! I even take mine on vacation to the beach! Enjoy!

Best Deals on 13-inch Krampouz Tibos Electric Crepe Maker

I have used this product twice and I am very impressed with the uniform cooking of this Crepe maker. The large 13" nonstick surface makes perfect crepes everytime... no more throwing out the first crepe! The plactic spreading device makes it easy to evenly spread the batter for beginners. The crepe maker is much more substantial than the picture shows, in my opinion. I found the suggested thermostat settings a little too hot causing the crepes to brown too quickly but, after lowering the temperature, I was knocking out multiple banana/Nutella crepes in a matter of minutes. The results are much more like the crepes I got in Paris than ones I've made in a crepe pan.

Honest reviews on 13-inch Krampouz Tibos Electric Crepe Maker

Ever since a first visit to France, we've been trying to find the perfect home crepe maker and for us this is it. The directions are very specific and should be followed to the T, with one exception: the included measuring cup for batter is not quite big enough and a touch (maybe about 2-3 Tbsp.) more batter needs to be used for each crepe. Also, when you start the spreading action, it tells you that it needs to be completed in 4 seconds and this is true! You must be really quick. Our favorites are strawberries and nutella and for savory, fried egg (which can be done right on the crepe maker prior to making your crepe), spinach, mushrooms and shredded cheese.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for 13-inch Krampouz Tibos Electric Crepe Maker

We bought this crepe maker to make a few crepes as an additional product for our vending business. We averaged a couple dozen in a half a day since it wasn't the main product. It worked OK the first time but then it just shut off. After it cooled off, it worked again but we tried it another day and it shut off again. I know it's not made for commercial use but I didn't expect it to shut off after only being turned on less than a couple hours. Just know that this is for home use and probably won't be turned on that long so it will should be OK for the average user.

That being said, it's a nice crepe maker. It has kind of a Teflon coating so the crepes don't stick. It doesn't take very long to heat up. Crepes cook a bit too fast so if you want to put Nutella, fruit or other ingredients in the crepe while it's on the crepe maker you'll have to hurry putting them on to heat them up before the crepe burns. Crepes made with this machine are definitely better than ones made with the cheap makers you find in the common stores.

Pros:

1. Nice large surface. 4 oz of batter will make a full size 13" crepe.

2. Cooking surface in non-stick. Easy to pull the crepe off.

3. Not heavy so it's easy to move and store.

4. Uses normal 110 electricity and 12 amps so it won't throw a breaker in most American homes.

Cons:

1. Settings are not realistic. Highest setting is 8 but if I put it higher than 2 the crepes burn. Cooks a bit fast even at that setting.

2. Can't leave it turned on for very long because it gets too hot and shuts off.

3. Tools that come with it are next to worthless. Buy the wooden dowel spreader (on Amazon). That's what the pros use and as long as you drag it through the batter and not try to push the batter, they work great, creating a perfect round crepe.

Reviews of Refrigerator or Freezer Thermostat (Temperature Controller)

Refrigerator or Freezer Thermostat
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

This works better than expected. Some people on Amazon as well as a home brewing forum noted an issue with most analog temperature controllers that there is some wiggle room on the temp. This has a large dial so it is easy to set the exact temp (to the degree). With the reviews and concerns in the minds of other reviewers, I tested the unit to see how much of this so-called "wiggle-room" it had. Plugged the freezer into this temp controller, plugged the temp controller into the wall. Set the dial to 40*F. Freezer turned on, and right when the freezer's thermometer hit 40*F, the temp controller turned off the power. When the temp controller turned the power back on, the freezer thermometer said 41*F. IMO, this product has no wiggle room and is darn accurate.

One note on the use of temperature controllers. This product works exactly as it is supposed to. My freezer has a built-in compressor cool-down to ensure long-lasting useability. It will take anywhere from 2 to 4 degrees for the compressor to actually turn back on after the power is turned back on by the temp controller. This is not an issue with this product, but rather the freezer dictates this. I have now set the temp on the controller to 2 degrees lower than I want it at so that when it warms up, it doesn't typically pass the desired temp.

Cheers,

Kojones

Converted a freezer into a keg fridge. This item keeps the kegs at a fairly constant tempature with very little variance, even with the 2x4 wooden collar installed on the freezer. Much cheaper than purchasing a kegerator. Great item for the homebrewer.

Best Deals on Refrigerator or Freezer Thermostat (Temperature Controller)

As a homebrewer, I needed a temperature controller to make sure my lagering fridge would remain at a constant temperature. This thing has a nice length of wire on the probe and causes no issues with the seal around the door. Being analog, it does have a little bit of wiggle room (+/2 or 3 degrees), but absolute temperature control wasn't my concern since yeast is a living creature and can handle a range of temps. If you've got a fancy fridge, I recommend getting a digital controller, though. The analog model will cut the power to the fridge right in the middle of a compressor cycle, and that's a good way to burn out your compressor over time. The digital ones only cut the power when the compressor is off, saving the life of your fridge. As long as you know what you're getting, though, this temp controller works well!

Using this in a bedroom where the vent doesn't have enough airflow.

Quiet not silent and provides enough boost to help cool the room

You will have to play with the thermostat to get the setting correct for turning on and off also will have to reset it when going from air conditioning to heat (and back again).

Overall nice look.

I bought one of these a couple of months ago and although it is a bit expensive it is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. It looks great. It is so well made, it feels like it will last forever as it is so simple, no electronics to break down no plastic bits to break off. You get a huge amount of control over the way the coffee tastes, it's all in the speed of lowering the handle and the tightness of grinds. It takes a few attempts to get it right but once you've worked it out you'll never look back.

My parents bought this about five years ago and I followed suit about a year ago. When she first bought it I thought they were crazy, but when it got there I understood why.

This machine is superb for almost any kind of coffee. Sometimes I like a strong espresso and sometimes I like a cold cafe sheccerato which is a cold coffee and is great. (To make it you simply get a shaker (like a martini shaker) and fill it with ice and a few teaspoons of sugar. Brew the coffee and while it is still very hot throw it in the shaker and shake it strongly for about a minute. The result is an ice cold frothy espresso, great for warm days forget Starbucks imitation stuff, this is much better).

As other people have said, it takes a little bit of time to get it right. Typically I've found that very thin grains are not the best to work with, something between your typical Illy coffee grain and the larger cheap grains usually works well. It take a bit to get used to, but once you start to get a hold of the whole concept it works superbly well. Frankly, even when you do a poor job the coffee is still good.

In addition, my parents have had this item for about five years and have not had a single problem. It's extremely easy to clean and if you are in a rush it's also a great machine since it loads so quickly and easily.

Also, if you are running out the door you need not wait for the water to completely heat up. You can run it after just a few minutes (of course your coffee won't be as warm, but it doesn't have to heat up completely in order to use it). For those quick out-the-door mornings, this is great. You won't have the best espresso in the world, but you'll still have one that beats just about anything.

I've been through about three [price range] machines in the last few years and they all broke or just didn't taste right. ... You have to be able to taste the difference between good and bad coffee to enjoy this machine. If you don't you probably won't enjoy this machine as much. In other words, if Folgers Instant coffee tastes good to you, move along.

It's also worth getting good coffee for this. ...

In the end, if you are looking for a high-quality product that makes high quality coffee, this is a great choice.

You'd better know your coffee before you even start looking at this espresso maker. It is a manual pull espresso maker, meaning there is some art and a lot of trial/error incurred when making your coffee. That said, this has produced some of the best espresso I've ever had. It's a smaller maker, and is great for someone who just wants about 4-6 espresso shots before needing to refill. (I work out of home office, so this is perfect...)

PROS:

* Small, means it doesn't take up much counter space.

* Manual Lever If you want fill control over your coffee, this is the way to go.

* More than enough steam pressure/volume to steam 12oz+ of milk.

* Solid construction. It is mostly all metal.

* Comes up to heat FAST. (About 5min with a full tank.) The head also comes up to temp quickly.

* Visible water level

* Easy clean drip tray

* Easy screw-off levers, knobs, etc easily replaceable/customizable.

CONS:

* The base is lightweight, and could be more solid. It feels cheap compared to the solid construction of the boiler/head.

* The steam nozzle does not swivel out, causing you to have to steam your milk VERY close to the boiler. (Ouch!)

* Must wait for it to cool before refilling due to steam pressure.

* The default tamp that comes with this unit SUCKS. Too small for the basket..leads to bad coffee...why, Pavoni, why?

CAVEATS:

* Not a "push button, receive coffee" type of maker. This is a pro for me, but you should be well aware that this requires finesse and patience.

* Ensure you are comfortable with servicing it yourself or OK with mailing it to a service center. This is not a throwaway item after a few years, and can be a lifetime purchase.

MUST ALSO BUY:

* 51mm Tamp. Seriously. Don't even use the one that comes with the unit. It will ruin your pulls. 51mm is the correct size.

* DEEP milk frothing container. Because of the angle and stiffness of the steam arm, you WILL spray yourself in the face if you don't have a good angle on it, and something to catch the overspray. (I use my mug, and have given up on having fancy foam.)

* Nylon brush Coffee regularly gets stuck in the area between the head and steam curtain on this unit. Clean after every use.

* Insulated espresso mugs/shotglases On bigger units, you can sit what you use to catch the coffee in on the unit to warm it up. Not so here. I use glass shotglasses that I heat up with hot water prior. (I'm cheap, ok?)

* Conical burr grinder A consistent grind is very important for this maker, as it is the difference between great coffee and awful coffee. This unit is sensitive to the grind, so once you have the right grind, it is very helpful to have that dialed-in on your grinder for every grind thereafter.

Why I rated 4/5 instead of 5/5??? Because of the craptacular plastic tamp, the inflexible steam nozzle, and the flimsy seeming base. Don't get me wrong, I would have zero issues recommending this unit highly, I think they just could have gone that extra little bit.

Honest reviews on La Pavoni EPC-8 Europiccola 8-Cup Lever Style Espresso Machine

Manual machines, without question, produce the best cup of espresso. I have owned them in the past, and recently purchased a brand new La Pavoni. The machine arrived broken. I could not even get one cup of espresso. I called thinking that La Pavoni would have me send back the machine and replace it. WRONG. I was told that this was not allowed, and the only option I had was contact one of there US Service Agents and arrange to have the machine sent to them for repair. Even then they indicated that the repair expense would be my responsibility.

At this point what do you do? So either I keep the machine as a useless decoration, or concede and try to fix it.

I tried the three numbers they provided. About 10 days have gone by, and I have called each number numerous times to no avail. You never reach a real person. Only a tape recording informing you that they would contact you as quickly as possible.

So, yes, a manual machine is the best, but La Pavoni warranty and service is horrible. If you want a manual, try a different vendor.

Simply put, this machine rocks for high quality espresso.

Once you have the technical skills down, learn the nuances of the beans you are using, and the stars align the espresso this machine can produce is as good as (or even better) than the highest end models above $6K (La Marzocca GS/3 comes to mind).

For under $1K this is the best deal available, period.

The Pro's:

1) Absolute control of the pressure. You can do everything (with pressure) that the fanciest machines are just becoming capable of such as pre-infusion, controlled variable pressure while pulling the shot, and make tweaks on the fly based on what you see coming out of the spout.

2) It is a beautiful and striking piece of kitchen equipment with a timeless design. A true conversation starter which will never go out of style.

3) It can produce the the best quality espresso possible.

The Con's:

1) Almost no temperature control, it get's hot and after that you have to "surf" the temperature as the machine's interior metal parts start to heat up. Commonly I can only pull four shots before it starts to get unrecoverable hot. There are tricks to help this, such as running the portafilter under cold water between shots, but you are always having to ride the temperature wave.

2) You can only make a few good shots in a single session due to both the temperature issue above as well as the volume of the boiler. This is not a machine appropriate for entertaining with as you won't be able to make six quality shots. However, if your guests do not have a discerning taste for coffee you could perhaps get away with it.

3) The learning curve is insanely steep due to it's 100% manual nature. It's easy to pull a shot that is as good as the swill Starbucks pulls within about a week of use. However, to learn to pull high quality shots on a consistent basis it will take over a year of practice. This can be fun as you'll probably be pulling random amazing shots within the first month if you seriously dedicate yourself to trying.

4) The portafilter is not the standard commercial size. This doesn't impact the espresso quality for most blends. What it causes a problem with is the tamp. It comes with a piece of junk tamp you should immediately throw away however to buy a new quality one is not as easy as popping down to your average coffee shop. As it has an unusual size you usually have to order it online.

5) The design of the machine leaves built up pressure in the portafilter and group-head after you've pulled a shot (if it was a good shot that was properly tamped). So when pulling out the portafilter you have to "bleed" the pressure off carefully otherwise it will "sneeze" hot coffee grounds and water all over the place. It invariably does this when you are showing the machine off to friends.

6) It gets amazingly hot. Almost all of it. Only the base remains cool but every other metal exposed metal part gets far too hot to touch quickly.

7) The steam wand is at an odd angle and hence is hard to use which is too bad as it has pretty good steam pressure.

8) Eventually, under heavy use, the seals will wear out and you'll either have to replace them yourself or send it in to one of the three shops in the nation who will replace them for you.

9) Finally, regardless of how good you get with it you won't be pulling great shots 100% of the time. I've had mine for nine years and still can only pull a good shot perhaps three out of five times. There are simply too many variables and if the grind, tamp, pressure, and temperature isn't spot on the shot will go sour. However, at least one of those shots is usually so good the sky splits open and angels sing.

Summary:

That's a long list of serious cons, but if it's truly quality espresso you are after and you are OK working for it this is the machine for you. Be sure to buy a good grinder too though.

My recommendation for beans are the very forgiving and truly delicious Counter Culture Toscano blend. Most blends will work but the Toscano is a good starter as it isn't as picky about temperature and pressure.

We purchased the New Comfort ES1500 heater to help supplement our propane heater in a very cold/drafty house. This is our first winter in this big old farm house in NW Wisconsin and even though we haven't experienced our normal cold temps, this house can get very cold.

We put the heater in the kitchen because it was always much colder in that room. We set the heater at 68 degrees during the day and 63 degrees at night. On the days we average 25+ degrees during the day, the heater manages to, at times, reach the 68 degrees..although it usually averages about 65 degrees. When we had our cold spell (below zero) the heater struggled to keep the kitchen at 60 degrees, usually only managing 56-58 degrees. Granted, our kitchen isn't blocked off from the living room or bathroom, but there are heat ducts in those areas also.

The great upside to owning this heater is the propane savings. We were going through $500 a month in heat costs, but with the heater our propane consumption has decreased by at least 25%. It is cheaper to pay an increase in electric than shell out another $500.

So, with all that said, I would buy this product again. I don't believe it can heat 1000 feet, but it does help. If you live in a warmer climate, or have a better insulated house, it just might do everything it claims.

Received last year Decided half way through the year it wasn't going to work anymore Says "alarm 1" Will not work and cannot find any info or get any answers as to what the alarm is for or how to fix it. Seems to me if you are going have that type of warning there should be some sort of list of what the alarms are but nothing. So for a good price I got a heater that lasted half a winter Not impressed

I have had this unit since Dec. 2012 and has been working great

And performs as promised. I have not had any programming issues with setting the digital thermostat and love the fact that it programs just like the house thermostat with the weekdays and weekend options along with the wake, leave, return, and sleep time frames. The tempature settings in our case had to be set lower than we would set the house thermostat because it was making the room too warm; the is only 300 sq feet but is a converted garage with no duct work. We bought a 2nd unit a few weeks later for added heat in the kids room. Both units since programming them have been a "set it and forget it". Another feature I like is there is a temporary override to the programmed settings, so when its extra cold weather outside you can adjust thd temperature without changing your programmed temperatue settings.

Mine is cooling a converted closet with about 700 bottles in it. The unit has worked fine for well over 12 years with only one recharge of coolant. A fan just went out so I'm replacing the whole unit after this long rather than start replacing parts.

Breezaire WKL-2200 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit -Max Room Size = 265 cu ft: Had a model WK1060 installed in 12/01. It ran 6 mos and but couldn't keep a 65 cu ft wine room cold enough (58 to 60 degrees F). In 6/02, the Company replaced it, free of charge, with a WK2200 (advertised as good for up to 265 cu ft) and that unit ran well for about 5 years. In 2008 the unit started to run 24/7 in order to hold the room temp at about 60 degrees F. Note that the wine room was specifically designed for its intended purpose (special insulation, vapor barrier, thermo door full seal gasket on 3 sides and a drop gasket for the floor), red wood bins designed for good circulation). In 2/12 the unit gave up and would no longer cool. It would seem that a refrigeration unit, as supposedly oversized as this one, should give you good service for longer than 9 years. But, since the installation hole is sized for this unit, i am going to replace it with the essentially the same thing the WKL 2200. I will tell you how this works out later.

Work well for the first ten days and then a sensor went bad. I had to go through weeks of back and forth with the company trying various fixes they suggested. Finally, they agree to cover the cost to ship the unit back for repair (not replace). It seems to be working now.

Honest reviews on Breezaire WKL-2200 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit -Max Room Size

I've had my existing Breezaire 2200 for 25 years and it has worked like a champ. I have not needed to do any maintenance to it. It is still cooling but the thermostat does not seem to be working because it runs constantly. I've been very happy with my Breezaire; it keeps my 6'x6'x6' cellar the perfect temp.
